How does 3D Digitising work?

A sequence of periodic fringes is projected onto the 3D object. Subsequently, both object and resulting fringe pattern are captured by a high-resolution digital camera. By applying geometric triangulation methods to account for changes in the structured light pattern resulting from the object geometry, the 3D information can be derived from the 2D images. Using this data acquisition method, up to 6.6 Mio 3D coordinates can be captured per shot. In order to achieve complete digitisation, topometric measuring typically requires a number of views. For the final alignment of these views, the Breuckmann OPTOCAT software provides a comprehensive choice of navigation strategies:  

 

  • Objects characterised by a distinguished geometry may be aligned after an interactive pre-alignment.
  • Various types of markers (size, code) or reference spheres may be placed on the object.
  • Combination with photogrammetric methods.
  • Real-time tracking systems capable of constantly determining the sensor's position.
  • Integrating the sensor into a robot or a coordinate measuring machine.

 

The views aligned by any of these methods are subsequently merged to result in a common data set of the object. The 3D data may finally be converted into any of the most commonly used data formats.
